A stay on the Pink Granite Coast: between Locquirec, the sea and Breton heritage

Choosing a hotel on the Pink Granite Coast means, first and foremost, choosing a base. One that allows you to see the rocky outcrops of Ploumanac’h in the early morning, walk along the GR34 in the afternoon and enjoy the tranquillity of a sea-facing room come evening. In Locquirec, a small harbour town in Finistère situated at the western entrance to Lannion Bay, the Grand Hôtel des Bains offers this ideal base: a 4-star seaside hotel, about 45 minutes from Perros-Guirec, between the Pink Granite Coast and Morlaix Bay.

What is there to do on the Pink Granite Coast? A unique coastline in northern Brittany

The Pink Granite Coast stretches across the Côtes-d’Armor, mainly through the towns of Perros-Guirec, Trégastel and Trébeurden. Over a stretch of around ten kilometres, the shoreline is lined with granite boulders in shades of pink, brown or orange, sculpted by the sea and the wind into astonishing shapes.

Why choose a hotel in Locquirec to explore the Pink Granite Coast?

Staying in Perros-Guirec puts you right at the heart of the attractions, but also right in the thick of the summer crowds. Choosing a hotel near the Pink Granite Coast, in Locquirec, means enjoying the same coastline whilst staying in a more peaceful setting, and opening up your holiday to two other areas: Morlaix Bay and the Trégor region of Finistère.

A peninsula between two coastlines

Locquirec occupies a small peninsula on the border between the Côtes-d’Armor and Finistère, defined by the Douron estuary. From the Pointe du Château, the view to the east takes in the whole of Lannion Bay and the western part of the Pink Granite Coast; to the west, the view stretches towards Morlaix Bay. From the Grand Hôtel des Bains, you can easily explore Perros-Guirec, Trébeurden, Morlaix, Carantec or Roscoff without leaving the area.

A village full of character with a well-preserved Breton heritage

The village of Locquirec has retained its fishing harbour. In the centre, the Church of Saint-Jacques stands out for its Renaissance-style bell tower – a rarity in the region – a reminder of its former role as a stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. All around, the narrow streets lead to the small harbour, the seafront and the sheltered beaches.

The GR34 trail at the foot of the hotel

The coastal path circles the peninsula: Pointe du Corbeau, Sables Blancs beach, Porz Biliec beach, Pointe du Château. A leisurely loop lasting one to two hours, best enjoyed at sunrise or at the end of the day, when the low-angled light colours the rocks. For a longer walk, the path continues towards the Grand Rocher de Saint-Michel-en-Grève, which towers 84 metres above the Lieue de Grève.

The Grand Hôtel des Bains, a seaside hotel in Brittany, the perfect base for exploring

Overlooking Locquirec Bay, the Grand Hôtel des Bains is a 36-room seaside hotel in Brittany, 27 of which have sea views. Its garden slopes directly down to the beach, with no road between the hotel and the water. Film buffs will recognise it: it served as the setting for the 1978 film *L’Hôtel de la plage *.

Sea-facing rooms with a New England feel

Light-coloured panelling, polished wooden floors, wicker and natural fabrics: the décor evokes the seaside homes of New England. The Superior Sea View rooms and the Prestige rooms, many of which feature a terrace, are the most popular for watching the tides from the comfort of your room.

A marine spa to unwind after your walks

After a day on the trails, the marine spa takes over: an indoor seawater pool heated to 29°C all year round, a hammam, a sauna, a gym and treatments by Thalion, a Breton brand of marine cosmetics. A real bonus for an off-season stay, when the wind blows across the bay.

Two restaurants overlooking the sea

The hotel restaurant offers gourmet cuisine based on seafood and local Breton produce. The more relaxed Brasserie de la Plage specialises in seafood and fish, with a terrace overlooking the harbour in season.

Everything you need to know before your stay in Locquirec

What’s the best hotel for a peaceful visit to the Pink Granite Coast?

To combine sightseeing with peace and quiet, a hotel near the Pink Granite Coast rather than in the heart of Perros-Guirec allows you to avoid the summer crowds. The Grand Hôtel des Bains, a 4-star hotel overlooking the sea in Locquirec, combines quick access to attractions, a marine spa and rooms with sea views.

How do you get to Locquirec?

  • By car: via the N12 (Rennes–Brest), take the Morlaix or Plouigneau exit, then head towards Lanmeur and Locquirec. On-site car park.
  • By train: Morlaix TGV station, then a 25-minute drive; Lannion station also serves the area.
  • By plane: Brest Bretagne Airport, about an hour away.

How many days should you allow for a stay on the Pink Granite Coast?

Two days are enough for the Customs Officers’ Path, Ploumanac’h and Trégastel. Allow four days if you wish to include the Sept-Iles, Tréguier and Morlaix Bay.

When is the best time to stay at the Grand Hôtel des Bains?

From May to September, the days are long and the trails are accessible from morning to evening; July and August are the busiest months in Ploumanac’h. Spring and autumn offer the best balance of weather, light and tranquillity. In winter, with the heated swimming pool and the spring tides, it’s ideal for wellness breaks.
